It was the beginning of his journey to a new lifestyle with The Lifestyle Docs Clinics. “I really felt the difference after 2 weeks”.

He had been battling his weight for years. He followed diet after diet and went from dietician to dietician. Still, it was not possible to get his 108 kilos below 100. Gourmet Sherman Felomina knew all too well why. “Like most Antilians, I am a bon vivant who loves good food and loves ice cream. That made it difficult for me”.


Vicious circle

For years, he says, he only filled his body instead of feeding it. With all its consequences. “I had been on a diet for about 10 years and was still at an unhealthy weight. It was a vicious circle. Because every time I thought: I fail. Every time you can't keep it up you subconsciously say to yourself, See, you can't do this. A slim and healthy body is not for you. So I completely fell back into old habits and I only gained more weight”.

Wake up call

Sherman's wife, Eurodice, sounded the alarm one day. “Now you go to the doctor for a check-up,” she said. “And luckily. I turned out not only to have diabetes but also high blood pressure. What I didn't know is that about 40 to 60% of people with type 2 diabetes already have high blood pressure when the diabetes is discovered. Diabetes increases the risk of high blood pressure because diabetes in turn reduces the quality of the veins. I don't think many people know this. In any case, it was an eye-opener and a wake-up call for me”.

Medication

Sherman was prescribed medication. “I immediately started taking Metformin for my blood sugar and Pendopril and Vasexten for my blood pressure. It made me sad, because it completely went against my feeling. I was of course aware that these were symptom fighters that did not address the cause of my complaints. I also soon suffered from unpleasant side effects such as dizziness, cramps in my muscles, ringing in the ears and a reduced sense of taste and appetite. I quickly thought: this is not the way to more health. This has to change”.


The Lifestyle Docs Clinics

A friend of his wife sent a photo of the book with the nutritional therapy The SSD Plan from the Lifestyle Docs Clinics. She added that this might be something for Sherman and his wife's brother. “When my wife read the back of the book, she immediately ordered the book and we immediately started with this diet, or rather 'lifestyle'. This was on January 26, 2021. On February 11, so about 2 weeks later, I had another blood test at the GP. My blood sugar turned out to have already dropped considerably. People were amazed and asked me: how did you do that?! I told them that I was working on The SSD plan and eating whole food plant-based”.

Not only did Sherman's blood sugar values ​​quickly improve, he also lost more than 14 kilos. “I felt and saw a real difference after 2 weeks. I feel so much better about myself. I feel healthier, happier and my self-image is also improving. Whole food plant-based eating, and all in the SSD specific way, is truly an incredible thing. This way of eating doesn't work 'just like a medicine', it IS a medicine. With one big difference: this 'medicine' not only addresses your complaint, but also improves your overall health. No medicine can beat that.”


Diabetes free

On May 18, 2021, Sherman had his blood sugar levels measured again. “My fasting sugar value and average sugar level were great. I was diabetes free and was able to immediately stop the diabetes medication. As a child I was so happy and especially grateful for our change in consciousness, for the realization that it really depends on a healthy lifestyle, and especially healthy food. At the moment I only take a pill for my blood pressure, but I am sure that I will be able to get rid of that too soon”.

LOST 26 KG

Sherman's wife and children share the same meal. Not exactly without results either. “My wife has gone from 140 kg to 114 kg in the same period and is still counting. Every day we feel fitter and clearer. Our environment thought it was clever of us to take this step, since we are used to Antillean food, love good food and like to be in the kitchen. Yes, you would say it would be a 'culture shock'. Still, that's great. The recipes in the book were easy to do, and we just think it's great to eat so varied and delicious. We may no longer eat meat, but it is not only meat that makes the food tasty, of course”.

Eat as much as you want

Sherman thinks the best thing about the SSD method is that he doesn't have to go hungry. “This method teaches you to eat other things and also how to prepare them. The best thing we discovered is that with this way of eating you can actually eat as much as you want without gaining weight. We were in Curacao for the whole month of September 2021. We both only gained 1 kilo there because we also ate ordinary Antillean food there. Once home, that little weight was soon off again. We think it's great that The SSD Plan has come our way and we don't want anything else. Family and friends on Curaçao have also become enthusiastic and are now working on it!”

Sherman's tips

  • Are you also considering working on your health?
  • Then do this just like us 'radical'. This gives the fastest and best result and that motivates you to keep going. Don't think: I follow a diet and that's it. Getting healthy is about a permanent change in your diet.
  • Are you often hungry while following SSD?
  • Then just increase your portions. Plant-based food is low in calories. So you can't eat too much of it quickly. Cook larger portions and freeze what's left. Sometimes I take a bean casserole to work for lunch.
  • Don't like tofu or tempeh?
  • Then replace this with something else, such as vegetarian chicken pieces.
